Brian, love your comments. I just read a wonderful book called Council of Dads by Bruce Feiler. There is a passage in it I intend to send to my dad this Father's Day (he will be 75). It occurs to me it may apply to your dad as well. Although I never met him, you can certainly see his wisdom and love thru you in what you said. Though I don't know you WELL, I can still see the following in you and your relationship to your own boys. As I write it, it reminds me of our shared Father as well.

"The moment was classic Ed Feiler: trusting, indirectly emotional, constantly nudging us out of the nest. It was his way of saying, as he often did, that he was our cheerleader. His goal was to provide the shoulders on which we would climb into the sky. He wanted nothing more than to be "between the commas" in some magazine, as in 'Bruce Feiler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Feiler, reached some milestone this week.' I didn't fully realize what he was trying to say until I, too, became a parent. The higher joy is not the light, it's the reflection. The greater pleasure is not climbing up; it's handing down." Between the commas.
